Air Hair...

The holiday season inevitably means travel, travel and more travel. Whether you're traveling by car, plane, or railroad hand cart...to the Shop Rite, holiday travel is a study in patience.  After my hurried dash to the airport in what always seems to be the middle of the night, I am en route to Frankfurt.

In my opinion, a plane journey longer than four hours is complete torture. Since all of my flights of late seem to be well into the 18+ hour range, I am thisclose to accosting the next flight attendant who wakes me with over salted packets of nonsense.

No I won't... being hauled off a plane by the marshall is not on my list of life accomplishments.

Anyway, I find myself in a real conundrum when it comes to keeping my already dry hair reasonably moisturized and looking like something during one of those long flights. The facts are these. According to everydayhealth.com "...the air inside the cabin of a plane usually has a humidity level of 10 to 20 percent — much lower than a comfortable typical indoor humidity of 30 to 65 percent." This means dry skin, dry mouth and dry hair. Crunch, crack, I'm having a styling heart attack.

Aside: Note - this only strengthens my case against the aforementioned flight attendant.

I am struggling! I mean the struggle IS REAL - to look like something, anything on arrival.  My hair is useless, parched, smashed on the side I finally managed restless sleep on,  and no matter what I do to right the situation in that glorified refrigerator box they call a restroom, I land looking like - tragedy.

The first piece of "Air Hair" advice I received was during my sophomore year in college. My friend Danielle, decided to skip out of the rest of our year abroad in Spain and return home to her fantastic boyfriend. Anyway, a former beauty queen...yes. sigh...  she told me she was tanking up on water a day or two before the flight, curling two day old hair into pin curls secured with bobby pins, and spraying the whole thing down with a moveable hair spray - Matrix Biolage Hair Glaze hairspray to be precise, (Biolage PULEEEAAASSEE bring this product back!) and uncurling before landing time! Fabulous!

Results? I have no idea as, Danielle fled, married Mr. Fantastic, and I stayed in Spain. However, another friend said pretty much the same thing many years later. Aside from looking slightly odd and security having a wand problem in the scalp region, this could be a solution!

My question is this.  What about that mysterious, handsome stranger one might sit next to on the plane??? Does one go into the refrigerator box and emerge tousled and perfect?  I ended up sitting next to a wonderful Italian grandmother who plied me with amazing hazelnut filled chocolates and stories of her summers in Greece so it wasn't a complete loss. But still, is there no other way to arrive looking moderately in control of your life?

Let me know if you have any "Air Hair" advice. My begging Matrix Biolage Haircare to bring back the Hair Glaze may prove futile, but in the interim if you want to step off the plane looking ready to receive your beloved like Danielle or are just in search of an excellent moveable hairspray that comes in a travel size I recommend L'Oréal Paris Elnett Flexible Hairspray Hold Extra Strength. (This stuff is the business! No crunch! No flake!)

Got any "Air Hair"  tips and tricks? We're all listening! please comment below.

Holiday Hair!

Holiday time is in full swing! With it comes the tastes and smells of the coziest time of the year!  Oh my, Oh my! Just the thought of smelling Philosophy Spiced Gingerbread Cookie Shampoo makes me giddy!

Now is the time to inject a bit of fun into the hair routine.  There is no better excuse than the bevy of parties and gatherings that are the inevitable hallmark of the holiday season. Make this one to remember by using one of these featured products!

Type 1 - Give your straight strands a shot of volume  with Fresh Pomegranate Conditioner. This weightless conditioner claims to add body and texture to Type 1 hair which can have a tendency to be board straight and volume challenged. Nourish and protect while smelling "pom-wonderful" due to the soy proteins and pomegranate extract in this product.

Type 2 - Wash those waves with Malin+Goetz Peppermint  Shampoo. This mildly foaming, residue free shampoo balances hair and reduces build up that can sometimes be the bane of an oily Type 2's existence. Natural peppermint extract and amino acid-based cleansing agents are also great for color treated hair.

Type 3 - Cover your curls with a couple of yummy smelling treats! Healthy Sexy Hair Pumpkin Detoxifying Shampoo, and Pumpkin Potion will make your hair smell as fresh as pie! The ingredient list is intriguing. Pumpkin enzyme, ginger root, green tea, and jojoba oil are the things your refreshed curls will be made of. Just think, smell like pie, minimize frizz,  AND define curly hair - another serving please!

Type 4 - Love up those locks by starting with the all natural and always fabulous Lush Cinnamon and Clove Shampoo Bar. Besides smelling like mulled wine, this product claims to work wonders on thinning hair! But wait,  don't erase the festive effect of a good wash with this shampoo bar by using a necessary but run of the mill conditioner!  Invigorate moisture deprived Type 4 hair with Wen Re-Moist Intensive Hair Treatment -Fig.  Apply this treatment as a deep conditioner and plan your holiday cheer while under the hair steamer.

FOR FUN - I'm not super sure about a product that claims to be a shampoo, bubble bath, AND shower gel.  I can imagine how this could go rock hard and tragically wrong on my head... but I suppose that if these products don't quite work for shampooing, the multi-purpose use is handy. At any rate, can you imagine alighting, yes you would be ALIGHTING from your shower or bath smelling like cookies??? I said COOKIES MAN! Check out Philosophy Christmas Cookie, Peppermint Stick in addition to the Spiced Gingerbread Cookie shampoo mentioned above. This is the holiday baking, calorie free situation my plump self has been waiting for! Thank you Philosophy!

Add a teaspoon of holiday cheer, a dash of sparkle and a heaping cup of good will toward men and let me know what you think in the comment box below. Be safe, make memories, and happy holidays to you all!
