When I first read a biography on Madam C.J. Walker, born Sarah Breedlove, I was awed by what this amazing woman accomplished during her all too short and difficult life.
Born in 1867, coming of age at a time when black women had nothing to look forward to except menial physical labor, Sarah Breedlove styled herself Madam C.J. Walker and became America’s first female self-made millionaire!
Married at 14, widowed at 20, and employed as a washer woman earning a subsistence wage, she was understandably losing her hair. Stressed much? As she sought to solve her own problem she formed her empire.
Earlier this year, Sundial Brands launched a line of products paying homage to her pioneering efforts. Sold exclusively at Sephora, and appropriately titled Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture the four collections in the range are comprised of 25 products costing USD $25 to $32.
Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture bring us two haircare breakthroughs:
1. Dual encapsulation oil technology; and
2. Natural silicone alternative
I am most interested in the natural silicone alternative! Evidently the brassica seed oil used in these products instead of traditional synthetic silicone gives the same bounce and shine and has the added benefit of having an excellent antioxidant profile. What does this mean for you? None of that fake manufactured build up that ends up clogging the pores and stunting hair growth that silicone packed products are known for.
